VAXNEUVANCE™ (Pneumococcal 15-valent Conjugate Vaccine) or PNEUMOVAX®23 (Pneumococcal Vaccine Polyvalent) might not protect everyone who gets the vaccines. They will not protect against diseases that are caused by bacteria types that are not in the vaccines.
Do not get VAXNEUVANCE or PNEUMOVAX 23 if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in that vaccine, or if you have had an allergic reaction to that vaccine in the past. Also do not get VAXNEUVANCE if you are allergic to diphtheria toxoid.
Before getting VAXNEUVANCE or PNEUMOVAX 23, tell your health care provider if you have had an allergic reaction to any vaccine. Also tell your health care provider if you have a weak immune system, or if you take medicines or treatments that might weaken your immune system. Tell your health care provider if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breast-feeding. Before getting PNEUMOVAX 23, tell your health care provider if you have heart or lung problems, or have a fever.
PNEUMOVAX 23 may not prevent pneumococcal meningitis in patients with leakage of spinal fluid caused by a cracked or injured skull or a medical operation.
The most common side effects seen with VAXNEUVANCE are pain, swelling or redness where you got the injection, feeling tired, muscle aches, headache, and joint pain.
The most common side effects of PNEUMOVAX 23 are pain, warmth, soreness, redness, swelling, and hardening at the injection site, headache, weakness and feeling tired, and muscle pain.
After getting VAXNEUVANCE or PNEUMOVAX 23, tell your health care provider right away if you have symptoms of an allergic reaction. These may include difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat, hives, or rash. Also tell your health care provider if you have any side effects that bother you or if any other unusual symptoms develop.
